For a long time, I watched from the balcony as my father's carriage traveled towards the horizon. The late morning sun was strong in the sky, pouring its warmth upon us. When the carriage was no more than a spot in the distance, I turned and went into my private chambers. I motioned vaguely with my hand, and a goblet of wine rose from the table and crossed the intervening space to my hand. I sniffed its husky fragrance, and sipped at it thoughtfully as I turned over the last few days in my head.
